At PD Devices we manufacture many different SPDs, we have produced MOVs for many years and our market requirements are forever evolving. Fairly new to our range of products are link boxes, but what are they and how do they work?
Link Boxes are effective cable earthing connection boxes that can provide some really unique challenges, both in terms of physical and electrical requirements to produce and make up critical parts of high-voltage underground cable systems.
A Link Box provides a sealed, weatherproof enclosure for bonding cable earths at what is the weakest point in the system – cable joints and terminations. It also provides an easy access point for maintenance purposes, to allow testing of shield breaks and cable connections.
Link Boxes may be configured as single-point bonding for the cable earth, or may be cross-bonded to reduce or eliminate circulating currents.
We manufacture and install our own SVL (Sheath Voltage Limiters) inside our Link Boxes to ensure that transient overvoltages, due to lightning or switching surges, don’t cause any breakdown of the cable jacket or other parts of the cable system.
