Lightning Strike Hits Devon Business

Lightning strike sends flames through Devon business causing thousands of pounds of damage

It was reported by Devonlive that a lightning strike had caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a business. It was reported that a substation near Yelverton Business Park was knocked out by lightning last month causing surge damage through some of the businesses in the area amounting to thousands.

One company had their photocopier / printer and router completely fried, others lost a £4000 telephone exchange. The lightning strike seemed to cost this estate quite a bit of lost money not to mention the downtime involved within the businesses, as there were actually a total of 8 other businesses affected on the estate with various levels of damage.

One business on the estate suffered very little effects of the power surge as its telephone lines were surge protected by a PD Devices TLP10LR which were installed 12 months prior to the incident.

BT have sent e-mails / letters to all businesses on the estate to say that BT are not liable for the damage caused.
